Manual Update Required

Normally, RadioTraffic updates are able to be handled in an automatic fashion. However, the next release of RadioTraffic will require the latest Microsoft system components to be installed; which will require some interaction on your part in order to resume the normal automatic update process.

The next release requires that the Microsoft .NET Framework 4 system components be available on your computer. It is likely that these are already installed, especially if your system is configured for automatic updates and the inclusion of recommended updates is enabled as these components are part of the recommended updates by Microsoft. These components have been available and in distribution for over a year.

The installation is pretty quick if the system components are already installed. It is typical that you could be done uninstalling/reinstalling the RadioTraffic update in under 60 seconds depending on your internet connection speed.

The setup.exe link on the installation page will automatically verify and install any missing system components; however, this requires that you have administrator access to your machine as well as the time that it will take to download and install these components. The system components can take some time; however, by pre-installing them; you can continue to work in RadioTraffic while these are installing if you install them prior to attempting the upgrade of RadioTraffic. There are a couple of options to do the pre-installation of these components:

  • Depending on the version of Windows you are using, you might be able to get these components using the Windows Update tool included with your copy of Windows. If you are familiar with this process, please feel free to utilize it.
  • Using the Web Installer from Microsoft. This is the simplest, most direct way to install. Remember, you need administrative access in order to make these type of system changes. You can download the Web Installer directly from Microsoft. The Web Installer will review what you currently have installed on your computer and download just what you need. Again, this can take some time. However, by doing this prior to upgrading RadioTraffic, you can continue to use RadioTraffic while these components are updated. A reboot may be required upon completion.
  • If you would like to download the Local Installer (which contains the full set of components) a single time from the internet and use that local file to update multiple computers, you can use this link.

The uninstall/reinstall process for RadioTraffic does not require administrative permission and no reboot is required. Again, this portion should only take a minute or two with the caveat that you’ve already pre-installed the Microsoft system components.

You can use the Windows Add/Remove Programs to remove the current copy of RadioTraffic. If you are running the Public release, click here; otherwise, for the Private release, click here. Follow the instructions on each of these pages to complete the upgrade.
